Sam's Picks
An eclectic mix of things I like in Madison, and that I recommend to friends and visitors.
- Food and Spirits
- Chautara (Nepalese, especially dinner)
- Himel Chuli (Nepalese, especially lunch)
- Fresco (rooftop sculpture garden and dining above Museum of Contemporary Art)
- Sardine (on the shore of Lake Monona, skatewing and mussels are amazing)
- Inka Heritage (Peruvian, a bit pricey but excellent)
- Great Dane Brew Pub (the usual)
- Jolly Bob's (Jamaican, their unique margaritas are crazy good)
- Essen Haus (when you need a boot of beer, german food, and a good polka band)
- Samba Brazilian Grill (if you love meat and amazing sides, all you can eat)
- Weary Traveler (their lunches are awesome)
- Eldorado Grill (just when you thought you knew southwestern food...)
- Music, Spirits, Food
- Rathskeller (the keystone of UW-Madison social life, Memorial Union and Terrace (beer garden)-- need UW ID, Union membership card, or sponsor [someone with the afore mentioned credentials] to make alcohol purchases)
- Magnus (I have not eaten here yet, just been there for music and drinks)
- Barriques Wine Cave (if you like wine... and a cheese plate... or beer, for that matter)
- Cafes
- Indie Coffee (great coffee, great people)
- Zuzu Cafe (across the street from my house)
- Pete's Coffee (in Memorial Union, convenient to the Pyle Center -- an alternative to Starbucks)
- Steep & Brew on State Street (since 1979, best espresso in town)
- Other Random Stuff
